Mathematics
Intent for Mathematics:
We want all our children to develop a sense of curiosity and enjoyment about maths. We want all our children to understand that maths is essential to their everyday lives. We want all our children to develop the ability to calculate, to communicate, to reason, and to solve problems to enable them to become confident to work mathematically in the classroom and beyond.
How we Teach Mathematics:
At Oakfield Primary School, we base our mathematics teaching on the White Rose scheme of work. All mathematics lessons follow the structure of 'I do' where the teacher demonstrates high quality modelling and explanation; 'We do' where the children are scaffolded to solve questions working with the teacher and peers; 'We do' where children apply the skills they have been taught to support them to embed the mathematical skill they have been learning.
Children are continuously assessed throughout lessons and learning is adapted to meet the needs of all children.
